Google backlink reporting
There’s a growing concern among Search engine optimization (SEO) professionals regarding the Google’s Link: checking command. Most of the time, google’s link counts are significantly lower than the counts provided by the rival engines such as Yahoo and Live. There’s an hot debate in the industry suspecting the google’s link: command being outdated.
There’s a good news. Google has enhanced the Links checking tool and added as part of the Webmaster Central forcing the site owners to create an account. Google’s Webmaster Central is definitely a plus for the industry inspite of few bugs and issues.
So, does this new enhanced tool offers better link counts than Yahoo and Live? The answer is no and it does not matter. Google’s link checker tool is only a feature for the site owners and the general public to know the incoming links for a specific domain. Whether Google report the backlinks count accurately or not, it has no effect on their ranking algorithms based on the link popularity and link reputation. Google’s link report does not constitute the actual counting of all your backlinks.
So, clients demanding backlinks only from PR4+ sites needs to be educated on this. As always, quality over takes quantity as far as link building is concerned. Since the quality is very abstract, we can define it by:
1. Importance of the page
2. Importance of the link location
3. Important of the page worthiness from the website’s main page
4. Number of competing links on the same page
5. Strategy to increase the link reputation
